How to Choose the Right OEM/ODM Partner in China

April 28, 2026 — Sourcing Guide

Finding the right manufacturing partner in China can make or break your product line. Here's what to look for when sourcing motor-driven consumer products — from massage guns to 3D printers.

1. Verify Certifications

A legitimate manufacturer should have CE and RoHS at minimum. For battery-powered products, UN 38.3 battery safety certification is essential. If your products touch skin (beauty devices), look for FDA registration. ISO 9001 indicates a quality management system is in place.

2. Understand MOQ and Lead Times

Typical MOQ for consumer electronics is 500–1000 pcs per SKU. Lead times range from 25–45 days depending on complexity and whether tooling already exists. Be wary of factories promising substantially shorter lead times — quality takes time.

3. Evaluate Quality Control

Ask about their QC process: Do they do IQC (incoming quality control) on components? 100% function testing on every unit? AQL sampling for batch inspection? A factory that can clearly explain their QC workflow is likely a reliable partner.

4. Check OEM/ODM Capability

Can they customize beyond just a logo? A strong OEM partner should offer: color variants, packaging design, multi-language manuals, spec adjustments (motor speed, battery capacity), and branded accessories. If they only do screen printing, they're a trading company, not a manufacturer.

5. Logistics & Shipping

Look for a partner who offers flexible shipping terms: Ex-Works, FOB, CIF, and DDP. FBA-ready packaging is a plus if you sell on Amazon. Multi-SKU consolidation saves on freight costs for mixed orders.
